MTO-Insurance Certificate Program:
Comprehensive Defensive Course

Phase one: In-Classroom 30 Hour Program

This program is designed for new drivers or experienced drivers that need to refresh, sharpen, or update their theoretical skills on defensive driving principals. Such students require an understanding of what is required to become a safe driver and ultimately pass their road test.

Students will be learning in a classroom environment where they will be given written material to read on defensive driving, watch videos of defensive driving demonstrations (how experienced drivers execute the driving techniques), listen to lectures on these topics to further clarify the material, and write comprehensive tests as an assessment of knowledge and retention of information. There will also be a questioning period where students will ask questions about the material being covered in class.

Each topic is divided into ten different sessions. We do not build on our sessions; therefore students can join our program at any time and can make up any missed classes at any time within the six-month period of registering with our school.

This program is designed for experienced drivers that need to refresh, sharpen or update their defensive driving skills in preparation for passing their road test. Students will gain experience in city, downtown, freeway and highway driving, and will improve their overall confidence for driving on all Ontario roads.

We will maximize your minutes by picking you up and dropping you off at our center, which is conveniently located 2 blocks east of the Dufferin subway station. This benefits the student because the instructor has designed specific lesson plans within designated areas of the city so that the student practices all the driving maneuvers, theories and rules of the road, according to the system of the Ministry of Transportation Drive Test Center. Each in-car session is a private lesson and no one else will be present in the car besides the student and instructor. Our method of teaching will consist of lecturing, demonstration, questioning, and written material that will re-enforce the student’s learning curve.

Why don't we pick students up from home, school, or work?  ▷

Our proven system... In the past, we did offer such a pickup service, but our clients made numerous complaints, and were upset that instructors would arrive late or cut them short of their time. This would occur because some of our clients would abuse the system. For example: A student would ask to get picked up from work downtown (Bay St and Queen) and then would expect to be dropped off at home (Dufferin and Eglinton). The next time the student would have a lesson, the student would expect to get pickup from work and dropped off at Dufferin Mall. This causes many conflicts with the lesson plan and the instructor’s schedule. The instructor must follow the designated lesson plan, and be punctual for the next class, which may require a pickup anywhere in downtown Toronto. If a student has different pickup points or drop off points at each lesson, the instructor must account for traveling distance in order to arrive on time for the next driving class, which is often difficult to coordinate, especially if the pickup and drop off points are far from one another. By establishing a standard pickup and drop off point at our center, the instructor remains focused on teaching the student defensive driving in adequate preparation for their driving test. Therefore, the student does not lose time from the lesson plan, thereby maximizing their training experience.

As a result, our policies are strict. We will not pick up or drop off our students at any location other than our center, so that our clients maximize their in-car practice time and achieve a rapid learning curve. In this way, we guarantee high quality service.

Please note: There is an additional $35 administrative charge after the student completes the full course, to acquire their Ministry of Transportation of Ontario Driving School Insurance Certificate.

Cost for MTO Insurance Discount Certificate Program ▷

The cost of our program is $465 for 30 hours of in-classroom Training, and 12 in-car sessions of 50 minutes. (Additional $65.00 if you select 14 lessons, freeway/highway driving) Click here for more information on the MTO Insurance Discount Certificate Program.

Crash Program for Experienced Drivers:
Preparation for the G2 or G Road Test (In-Car Only)

This program is designed for experienced drivers that need to refresh, sharpen or update their defensive driving skills in preparation for passing their road test. We will commence our program with a simulated test. We will cover step by step what a driving test consists of, and then will comment on and explain what errors the student driver has committed. The instructor will design the lesson plan based on the results of the simulated test. This is a popular program for drivers attempting to get their G license or for experienced drivers who have had their license suspended or who have emigrated from other countries and would like to brush up on their skills.

Lessons 1 and 2: Double lesson. The program begins with a mock driving road test. The instructor will evaluate the students strengths and weaknesses, and then will proceed to custom a lesson plan based on the students performance, and this lesson plan will be the basis of the driving program to strengthen the students weaknesses. Following the evaluation, the instructor will begin with the lesson plan on driving on commercial and residential streets, followed by the all the 9 parking maneuvers needed for the road test.

Lesson 3 and 4: Double lesson. The student continues with the lesson plan and continues to practice on commercial, residential and all 9 parking maneuvers required to know for the road test. If a student is going for the G road test, then lessons 3 and 4 will be freeway driving, and will cover all the defensive driving topics needed to know to pass the G road test.

Lesson 5: The student will review lessons 1 to 4, and will proceed to the road test centre.
